DetailsDescription:
Archlinux on the FrameWork laptop with the new Alderlake 1260-P CPU frequently experiences hard freezes. It does not even jump to a preloaded crashkernel, it just stops reacting, sometimes the fan starts to spin and has to be reset through the power button. This seems to be somewhat common, see for example [1] which discusses this issue for Fedora. After trying various fixes (including installing Fedora) I managed to freeze the laptop while compiling the linux kernel while I still had an SSH connection open which seemed to be unaffected by this. Through it I obtained the attached dmesg with the following interesting line: [84048.209091] BUG: unable to handle page fault for address: 0000000000003600 I have already ran one memtest86+ without any errors, I will run a couple more. Dutyfully I checked the kernel.org bug reporting guidelines which redirected me to my linux distribution bug tracker. (I am not sure (and sorry) if this is not really a bug or does not belong here, but at this point I don't really know where else to ask.) The memtest86+ just gave an error on the second run after about 30 minutes. I'd consider this resolved.
