Description:
I have a home server that runs Arch Linux. Doing smb://[server-ip]/ on any linux machine or even \\[server-ip] under Windows 10, the shared folders doesn't show up, but I can still access files if I manually type smb://[server-ip]/myghi63 or \\[server-ip]\myghi63 for example.
So I tried to make samba work with my desktop (also running Arch) and the folders didn't show up too!

Also there's some errors when I check the service with "sudo systemctl status smb.service":
jan 09 15:16:21 myghi-server rpcd_classic[4041]: [2023/01/09 15:16:21.782542, 0] ../../lib/util/debug.c:1264(reopen_one_log)
jan 09 15:16:21 myghi-server rpcd_classic[4041]: reopen_one_log: Unable to open new log file '/var/log/samba/log.rpcd_classic': Permission denied

Analyzing the file /var/log/samba/log.rpcd_classic, it does seem to have correct permissions and the file is full of this:
[2023/01/09 15:16:21.782542, 0] ../../lib/util/debug.c:1264(reopen_one_log)
reopen_one_log: Unable to open new log file '/var/log/samba/log.rpcd_classic': Permission denied

I also created a vm with Ubuntu Server 22.04 (with samba 4.15.9) and it works just fine without any errors! the exact same config file!

Additional info:
* package version(s)
Samba 4.17.4-4
Linux kernel 6.1.4

* config and/or log files etc.
https://gitlab.com/myghiproj/ahss/-/blob/main/ConfigFiles/smb.conf

* link to upstream bug report, if any

Steps to reproduce:
Install samba, configure /etc/samba/smb.conf correctly, start smb.service and chech smb://[server-ip], or on Windows \\[server-ip]. No folders will show up!

Works fine here. My config is slightly different but smb://server comes straight up. What happens if you set up a share with "guest ok = yes"? I do see a few "permission denied" log messages but they seem benign. Which was the last version that worked? You should probably visit the proper support channels (forum/IRC/etc) to see if anyone can help you debug the issue.

I tried to set guest ok = yes to all shares but it didn't make a difference at all.
I don't know which version it stopped working, because when I downgrade the samba package I get a lot of errors of missing libraries, so I can't test it
But as far as I remember, a month ago it was working just fine!
Could you share to me your smb.conf file, please?

I also just made a clean install of the OS and it didn't fix the issue
