Check the output of `lddtree /usr/lib/chromium/chromium` needs pax-utils. I suspect you have a custom ffmpeg which links to kvazaar and you need to rebuild it.

@loqs - you are positively brilliant and spot on. Rebuilding/reinstalling ffmpeg-full cured the issue. Thank you!
