Description:
Arch Linux repositories support is optional, so if you are not using it ('packagekit-qt5' is not installed), 'archlinux-appstream-data' appears to be useless. Removing the package does not cause any errors in the app, so it can easily be moved to optional dependencies.

And I understand that installing 2 optional packages to get the repos support can be more cumbersome, but maybe it is worth it to make a dedicated meta-package for it.

Yes, you are technically correct, but this is just a 18 MB data file and it reduces the number of packages one needs to install in order to enable packagekit support. And I know well what will happen: people will start reporting bugs upstream because they failed to install the optional dependency.
