bsdtar can handle cpio format, here is a patch to rpmextract.sh and it's PKGBUILD that any dependency on gzip bzip and cpio, replacing it with bsdtar.

bsdtar comes as a dependency for pacman so it is present on all archlinux installation.

This should be put on hold until we bump to libarchive2, the current permission problems with pacman are related to some problems with libarchive1 (and I assume bsdtar will have the same issues).
