I believe this bug has been closed when it should not "http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/7201" Also as noted in the discussion someone said the go-pear method worked for him, but not with me at least
I encountered the following error:"
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 40 bytes) in /usr/temp/gopelItfMZ/PEAR/Registry.php on line 1045"
Thanks

Did you try the package from [testing]? What exactly does not work for you? It would be easier to fix if you mention the steps to reproduce this problem.

PS: It`s better to reopen a bug report than open a new one.

Edit: Just to make things clear: using php 5.2.3-4 I get:

[root@satellite pierre]# pear upgrade-all
Will upgrade channel://pear.php.net/pear
Will upgrade channel://pear.php.net/console_getopt
Did not download optional dependencies: pear/XML_RPC, use --alldeps to download automatically
pear/PEAR can optionally use package "pear/XML_RPC" (version >= 1.4.0)
downloading PEAR-1.6.0.tgz ...
Starting to download PEAR-1.6.0.tgz (296,465 bytes)

downloading Console_Getopt-1.2.3.tgz ...
Starting to download Console_Getopt-1.2.3.tgz (4,011 bytes)
...done: 4,011 bytes
upgrade-all ok: channel://pear.php.net/Console_Getopt-1.2.3
upgrade-all ok: channel://pear.php.net/PEAR-1.6.0
PEAR: Optional feature webinstaller available (PEAR's web-based installer)
PEAR: Optional feature gtkinstaller available (PEAR's PHP-GTK-based installer)
PEAR: Optional feature gtk2installer available (PEAR's PHP-GTK2-based installer)
To install use "pear install pear/PEAR#featurename"
[root@satellite pierre]# pear upgrade-all
Nothing to upgrade-all

I tried php-5.2.3-4, but that comes with some problems my Apache 2.2.4 stop working and so is with php-5.2.3-3 that are in testing
With the current version of php-5.2.3-2 when I do pear upgrade-all I get the following error "Notice: unserialize(): Error at offset 39942 of 72863 bytes in PEAR/Registry.php on line 1045". On the other hand, when I do this other method of installation "$ lynx -source http://pear.php.net/go-pear | php " I get the following error
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 32 bytes) in /usr/temp/gopeCYoYG2/PEAR/Registry.php on line 1045. It downloads everything that is needed but I get that error
In addition pear install <package-name> gives me back the following error "Error at offset 39942 of 72863 bytes in PEAR/Registry.php on line 1045
pear/MDB2 requires package "pear/PEAR" (version >= 1.3.6), installed version is
No valid packages found
install failed"

Thanks
.

Of course this is only fixed in php-5.2.3-4. What problems do you have with Apache? It works wuite fine here.
