This is a slightly bigger issue than at first glance- the message string originally is "Targets:", not "To install:", so is the same string being used for both install and uninstall. Perhaps we can make this a bit less ambiguous in 3.1.

I am gonna give you some options (i am spanish)

1. Objetivos -> targets (literal translation)
2. Paquetes afectados -> Affected packages (correct meaning)
3. A instalar/desintalar -> To install/uninstall (it is better to say more than to say the opposite)
4. Paquetes -> packages (simple)

Personally, i would chose 4.

Are you familiar with gettext and translations at all? If so, I'd suggest cloning a copy of the pacman GIT tree and taking a look to see if this ambiguity is still there.

Then read the 'translation-help' file in the top level of the repository.

I am not familiar with git or gettext translations but i think could manage to find that the ambiguity is still there

If I am not wrong, the string "Targets:" is translated to "A instalar:" in the files "remove.c" and "util.c"

Just to know if things are as they look, wouldn't changing these lines to:

#: src/pacman/util.c:324
msgid "Targets:"
msgstr "A instalar:"

Fix the problem?

This isn't quite how gettext works- it is a simple gettext(string) call, and it looks up translations in a dictionary without regard to where in the code the translation happened, so your fix won't work.

Steps to fix:
* Run './autogen.sh' and './configure' at the top level
* In the po/ directory, run 'make pacman.pot-update' and 'make es.po-update'
* Notice the translation is still there, although line numbers have updated. Either change the translation to something correct for both cases, or change the English text in the code where indicated to be unambiguous.
* Run 'git diff > pacman.es.patch' and attach that file here. Thanks!

Here it is... but I see the diff being to "messy" for just one line... probably it has to with the command "make es.po-update"

My biggest trouble was to guess how to fetch pacman git sources. I did this:
* git clone http://projects.archlinux.org/git/pacman.git/ pacman-git

Well, tell me if everything is right.

'man git-clone' or 'git help clone' would be your friend. The line I gave you above should work as stated.

If you are interested in the future doing a full update to that translation, that would be appreciated as well. We can help you out on the pacman ML with that sometime, but we don't really work too much on that until we are closer to a string freeze. i am working in the revision of the Spanish localization of pacman, and i got stuck in this point:
- "-m, --foreign list installed packages not found in sync db(s)"
- is "sync db" equal to "repository". I can't think of anything else, but i want to make sure. This is because if it is the same, the translation of sync db is much longer and confuse than repository.

Also, is there an automated way in which i can generate all the output messages as they will be shown?

What's the status on this?
