Reason for closing:  Fixed
Additional comments about closing:  Updated to 2.8.4.
- added patch to fix invalid free with latest gtk-engines
- removed 2.8.0.1 patch
- Recompiled VLC with wx 2.6.4, as VLC doesn't support 2.8 officially and has a broken UI with 2.8.4.

The version in current seems quite buggy, I would also appreciate the update if nothing prevents it...

Let's break API on minor updates, even micro updates beak API. I don't get these wxwidgets people breaking their API all the time. This is what keeps us from updating wxwidgets: things are broken no matter what you do with wxwidgets.

Mmm ok... This is not really serious to break the API on each update !

Hopefully I almost only use wxGTK for my own work and *for me*, 2.8.4 didn't break anything and solved some annoying bugs. But I understand well that you can't upgrade it if it breaks things elsewhere. Thanks a lot for your quick answer. :)

Meanwhile I have successfully made and installed a 2.8.4 package, but there is a little problem with it: pacman wants to forcibly downgrade it to 2.8.0 every time I do -Su, so I have to --ignore wxgtk. I am not sure whether I should file a bug report for that, as I don't really know if the problem is with pacman, wxgtk, or a misconfiguration. Please have a look at the attached PKGBUILD.

For what it's worth, I fixed up the patch from 2.8.0 to apply to 2.8.4. Most stuff from the patch seems to be incorporated already, except for some C++ source files.
