Description:

Seen on manjaro (so not 100% sure it applies to arch, but would be great if someone could check if this is reproduced on arch since package appears to be the same).

With this version of hplip, scanning via sane using devices connected via hpaio is impossible. Devices are properly found by `scanimage -L` but then trying to use them results in a device I/O error. Downgrading to 1:3.21.12-1 restores the ability to scan.

Steps to reproduce:

- opening xsane and selecting a device attached on the network via hpaio or trying to scan with scanimage, hp-scan etc. is enough to trigger the issue.

I think that I have found the real issue. Problem is that my hp scanner needs a plugin and that hplip 3.22 needs a new version of the plugin. However rather than saying "plugin misaligned" or trying to fire up hp-plugin, hplip says I/O error that is quite misleading. Maybe this is an upstream issue. However, I think it would be much safer if the arch/manjaro hplip package on (major version) upgrades could just remove the plugins it finds. If there are no plugins, I seem to remember that hplip tries to propose installing them or at least gives a sensible error.
