Description:
As you know SDL1 has not seen any releases years and it's extremely unlikely to do. In addition it does not support Wayland and many new goodies that SDL2 does. Ryan (icculus) the core developer behind the libraries, has recently tagged/published sdl-compat 1.2.52 [1]. It is a SDL1 ABI compatible library, which uses SDL2 behind the scenes. icculus and community has done through lengths to test various titles - both build and runtime - and things are looking good. Fedora [2] has outlines plans to switch away to sdl-compat, while Debian recently got the package in their repos and are discussing [3] (+misc IRC) a similar thing.
