grub-install doesn't seem to work without sed installed, so perhaps it ought to be added to its dependencies.

grub is in base, base packages should depend on what they need IMHO.

My opinion probably doesn't matter much, but I thoroughly agree. This is one of those things that take almost no effort, but makes Arch a really nice experience for all us hobby-hackers who likes to mess around with a system we're in full control of. For those people who just want something that works, there is already one Ubuntu IMHO.

If you decide to sort out the dependencies, grub-install requires cmp too, and hence diffutils.

After the reorganization (core) - if not before - diffutils is not in base, so grub-install will not work in a base-only installation.

imho diff should be in base, as it's a very important package that is required for many things. On distributions like debian it's an essential package that will make apt-get shout at you when you try to remove it.

diffutils is now in base so the second part of this report (after reopening) is fixed,
it was closed as "Won't fix: packages in base are assumed to be installed anyway)",
so can it be closed now, or we want to add sed and diffutils to depends?
