Description:

Firefox consistently crash while scrolling reddit.com home page. Doesn't happens on any other website I use, only on reddit.

After a while, it seems random but eventually it happens, scrolling through the page leads to a crash with the error in the summary of this report.

The same does NOT happens using the flatpak version of Firefox on the same Arch installation. Doesn't seems to be related to extensions (I use the same extensions in both flatpak and arch distributed Firefox) nor related to cache or settings (happens with a clean Firefox profile as well)

By looking at mozilla crash website, I can see there are other reports about this issue, and they are all on Arch or derivate distro (like Manjaro, etc.) https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/signature/?product=Firefox&signature=wl_array_copy%20%7C%20%3C.text%20ELF%20section%20in%20libwayland-client.so.0.20.0%3E

Additional info:
* package version(s): Firefox 97.0-1 on Gnome Wayland. Arch Linux with zen kernel. Latest updates to the system applied.
* Firefox tweaks for Wayland applied as per https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/firefox#Wayland and https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/firefox#Hardware_video_acceleration
* link to upstream bug report: https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/3a1fc3ea-eacb-4a41-9abe-783900220215

Steps to reproduce:

Open Firefox
Open https://www.reddit.com website
Login to Reddit account
Scroll the homepage, at a random time while scrolling, the browser crash. It may be seconds, or minutes but eventually it happens.

Does this also happen with the mozilla official build (NOT flatpak)?

I haven't tried, but I'll download it now and report back

Cheers,

Yes, I can confirm it happens with mozilla official build as well. Here's the latest crash report: https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/f714c410-a94c-4090-b7b2-aab0c0220215

I downloaded the tar.bz firefox archive from https://www.mozilla.org and executed firefox from the command line, hoping for some more hints about the crash, but all I got is:

ExceptionHandler::GenerateDump cloned child 9010
ExceptionHandler::SendContinueSignalToChild sent continue signal to child
ExceptionHandler::WaitForContinueSignal waiting for continue signal...
