Details

This is a distro counterpart of upstream bugreport [1] with got resolved via PR [2].

Please consider cherry-picking the fix (consisting of two commits) until it lands into a stable branch (these crashes are really annoying).

This became 19 commits and these do not apply cleanly. I am inclined to wait for this to show up in v250-stable branch.
