I followed the steps and selected "Meshes -> Create mesh from shape...", and a mesh was generated. Is this the correct last step to reproduce the issue?

Could you please test with the latest freecad package in [community]? (0.19.3-12)

I tried with the latest freecad (0.19.3-12). gmsh is installed and working (I tried both the gmsh and gmsh-bin packages from AUR).

Loading the FemCalculixCantilever3D example, a mesh is already visible: https://0x0.st/oo9r.png . When deleting that mesh and generating a new mesh using gmsh, the message appears that meshing is successful but the resulting mesh is clearly bogus (and will not run in calculix): https://0x0.st/oo9s.png

I see. Thanks for testing. As far as I can tell, this is not a packaging issue, but an issue with FreeCAD.

Please consider trying the development version of FreeCAD, and then report the issue upstream to the FreeCAD developers:
