Details

it looks like in the regular community/code revision of vscode, the remote-containers extension (https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=ms-vscode-remote.remote-containers) cannot be installed. I had to install visual-studio-code-bin from the AUR instead to be able to install that extension.
I'm not sure why this is the case. I've tried it on multiple systems & distributions including Arch, Manjaro, Endeavor OS and got the same behavior on all of them.

This is a known limitation of the repo version.
