Details

After the user upgrades Element in the browser, the user will still be asked to upgrade Element. Restarting browser doesn't help.

The displayed versions under Settings -> Help / About -> Versions:
Version von Riot: !!UNSET!!
Version von Olm: 3.2.3

% grep -lr UNSET /usr/share/webapps/element/

So apparently we were missing setting VERSION at build time. Not sure when this was added nor whether this is documented somewhere, but it seems to fix it. Please confirm after trying 1.9.7.

Thanks! Installed element-web-1.9.7-1 on server and after first notification and upgrade in browser, the version information displays:
Version von Riot: 1.9.7
Version von Olm: 3.2.8

On server:
% grep -lr UNSET /usr/share/webapps/element
%

And it is not prompting for "upgrade" any longer.
