Reason for closing:  Fixed
Additional comments about closing:  I will consider this fixed as there's been no recent reports and also it's kind of old and the driver version has moved on a lot.

nvidia 495.44 breaks my system too (both X11 and Wayland). I'm using version 470 from AUR, but I will keep an eye on this issue.

Had the same problem on 2 systems. Both had nvidia-utils installed but used the nouveau driver (dont remember why / how i installed nvidia-utils).

This change in particular broke it for me:
https://github.com/archlinux/svntogit-packages/commit/15f9d1590baf814fec431e13f12ebbc94d42079f#diff-3e341d2d9c67be01819b25b25d5e53ea3cdf3a38d28846cda85a195eb9b7203a
by creating the 'blacklist nouveau' in modprobe.d

I solved it by removing the nvidia-utils package (quick fix is to delete the file in modprobe.d)
