DetailsDescription:
Since the upgrade to Plasma 5.23 the compositor stopped working for me . With kwin 5.23.0-1 I got stuck at login after entering username and password; then I saw a patch for the compositor had been added to 5.23.0-2, and with this I can login but no desktop effect is working (I use mainly windows transparency). This happens only on X11 sessions, while under Wayland it seems to work. I tried selecting both OpanGL2.0 and OpenGL 3.1 as the rendering backend but that made no difference. I also removed the xf86_video_intel driver and now I guess I'm with modesetting, but still the issue persists. Additional info: * package version(s) Plasma 5.23.0 kwin 5.23.0-2 * hardware config Intel UHD graphics 630 |

Yes, xrender compositing was removed. So if your GL card/driver doesn't provide the extensions needed by kwin, you will have no compositing. If you believe your card should be supported, please report it upstream.
