Description:

The 1.18 release was packaged using the meson build system instead of autotools, and that came with a bunch of side effects, e.g.:

We're fixing these issues upstream and they'll be available in 1.18.2, but meanwhile, would it make sense to switch back to autotools?

If you can get these fixed relatively quickly (I can cherry-pick from master) that would be great; I would prefer to keep Meson.

I'm thinking in releasing 1.18.2 with most of those fixes; I assume that's also a good enough option.
