but it seems like arch also hasn't got the fix rolled out yet, since my laptop is still having no sound.

Most of the time this works as expected, but once a month or so an update to sof-firmware breaks it. From dmesg it can be read that the firmwares ABI gets out of sync with the kernels. Usually a downgrade to the lateste firmware compatible version of sof-firmware fixes it, this time (as of December 12) around that doesn't work though.
