When I start Sauerbraten, it says "sound init failed: Audio target '' not available" and I therefore do not have any sound in Sauerbraten. I don't think the bug has been fixed upstream yet, so I decided to post a bug report.

Additional info:

package versions:
- alsa-card-profiles 1:0.3.34-1
- alsa-lib
- alsa-plugins 1:1.2.5-2
- pulseaudio 15.0-1
- sdl2_mixer 2.0.4-6

config: default

Steps to reproduce:

Start Sauerbraten with the newest versions of all packages

As it turns out, the problem was SDL2, since it worked after a downgrade to version 2.0.14-1

That's odd. We're really not doing any fancy patching in our sdl2 package. Can you try to rebuild sauerbraten against the most recent version of the sdl2 package and see whether the issue remains? This might be a bug in sdl2 or sauerbraten but doesn't seem to be a packaging bug.

I rebuilt sauerbraten and it didn't fix anything, so I also suspect it might be a bug in sauerbraten or sdl2

Frankly sauerbraten is really old and I might just drop it. I don't think it has many users at all.

Adding 'export SDL_AUDIODRIVER=pulseaudio' as the first line of /usr/bin/sauerbraten-client has resolved this issue for me but unsure if this could affect other setups.

Dunno, that would work for me. Laurent, do you think this would be a reasonable fix?

There is a 2020_12_29 version, with a sound fix (https://sourceforge.net/p/sauerbraten/code/6517/)

pushed just now in community repo, please test
