I installed the latest huge list of updates from around 14th of July 2021, among which were the following updates: [2021-07-15T21:50:32+0300] [ALPM] upgraded nvidia-utils (465.31-1 -> 470.42.01-2) [2021-07-15T21:50:50+0300] [ALPM] upgraded mhwd-nvidia (465.31-1 -> 470.42.01-1) [2021-07-15T21:50:51+0300] [ALPM] upgraded lib32-nvidia-utils (465.31-1 -> 470.42.01-1) [2021-07-15T21:51:14+0300] [ALPM] upgraded linux414-nvidia (465.31-4 -> 470.42.01-4) [2021-07-15T21:51:24+0300] [ALPM] upgraded linux419-nvidia (465.31-4 -> 470.42.01-4) [2021-07-15T21:51:36+0300] [ALPM] upgraded linux49-nvidia (465.31-4 -> 470.42.01-4) [2021-07-15T21:51:39+0300] [ALPM] upgraded linux54-nvidia (465.31-6 -> 470.42.01-5) [2021-07-15T21:51:56+0300] [ALPM] upgraded opencl-nvidia (465.31-1 -> 470.42.01-1) I was greeted with a black screen when rebooting the computer. From the xserver log I could see that the new nvidia drivers are problematic. [ 1131.747] (EE) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA GPU at PCI:11:0:0. Please [ 1131.747] (EE) NVIDIA(GPU-0): check your system's kernel log for additional error [ 1131.747] (EE) NVIDIA(GPU-0): messages and refer to Chapter 8: Common Problems in the [ 1131.747] (EE) NVIDIA(GPU-0): README for additional information. [ 1131.747] (EE) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device! [ 1131.747] (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failing initialization of X screen After downgrading these nvidia packages xserver still failed to start: lib32-nvidia-utils-470.42.01-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst linux414-nvidia-470.42.01-4-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst linux419-nvidia-470.42.01-4-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst linux49-nvidia-470.42.01-4-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst linux510-nvidia-470.42.01-5-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst linux54-nvidia-470.42.01-5-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst mhwd-nvidia-470.42.01-1-any.pkg.tar.zst nvidia-utils-470.42.01-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst opencl-nvidia-470.42.01-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst After downgrading the following package I was able to get xserver started but right now my network card is not recognized as something is still in a broken state. linux54-5.4.131-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst Luckily I was able to use the USB network cable adapter to get to the Internet. Attached is the Xorg.0.log and a screenshot of what my package manager currently shows me. I would not like to install the suggested updates because these are the ones that prevent the xserver from starting. |
