Which dictionary are you using exactly? Please attach a sample txt file where it doesn't work.

Disregard what I said about a large text file, it happens in a new blank text file as well, just by typing asd asdasd asddas. They will show up as spelled fine, but then if I do Ctrl+Shift+O to turn spell check off and then back on, they are correctly underlined. I'm using aspell-en.

aspell-en ships many dictionaries, I'm asking for the exact one you're using

"American English (United States)" according to KDE System Settings, not one of the variants.
