Description: Automatic spellcheck is broken.


Additional info:
* package version(s) Kate 21.04.1-1 and aspell-en 2020.12.07-1 but possibly earlier versions too
* config and/or log files etc.
* link to upstream bug report, if any

Steps to reproduce:
1. Enable automatic spell checking for English language
2. Open large document with many spelling errors and correct words
3. Kate will not detect additional incorrect words and will mark some correct ones as incorrect and vice versa

Which dictionary are you using exactly? Please attach a sample txt file where it doesn't work.

Disregard what I said about a large text file, it happens in a new blank text file as well, just by typing asd asdasd asddas. They will show up as spelled fine, but then if I do Ctrl+Shift+O to turn spell check off and then back on, they are correctly underlined. I'm using aspell-en.

aspell-en ships many dictionaries, I'm asking for the exact one you're using

"American English (United States)" according to KDE System Settings, not one of the variants.
