It looks like the project has a mix of licenses with some GPL
files, isn't it?
It used to be that bdwgc required libatomic_ops, but since version
8.0 this is only needed if the compiler doesn't understand C
atomics. Some build system files are GPL'd, but in my
understanding the exceptions ensure that this does not imply the
whole library is GPL.
