From linux 5.12 upgrade the system freeze when suspend.

Tested in linux 5.12.*
intel i915 chipset.

From linux 5.12 upgrade the system fails when suspend from button or closing lid. The screen goes black and does not resume anymore and I have to hard reset the system.

With linux-lts kernel it works fine.

Thank you.

I am having same problem and one more problem below.

When going to sleep, here is the last entries in the journal.

May 10 10:51:47 amish systemd[1]: Reached target Sleep.
May 10 10:51:47 amish systemd[1]: Starting Suspend...
May 10 10:51:47 amish systemd-sleep[2660]: Suspending system...
May 10 10:51:47 amish kernel: PM: suspend entry (deep)

And then system hangs and requires hard reboot. There is nothing else reported in journal.

Another problem is that for both 5.12.1 and 5.12.2 - system freezes within 10-15 minutes of working on it. And requires hard reboot. And then after reboot again hangs within 10-15 minutes.

When system freezes, there is nothing in journal. It simply hangs / freezes.

Downgrading back to 5.11.16 or LTS kernel works fine.

System is HP Probook 4510s

I had the same issue since 5.12 upgrade on my ThinkPad X200. Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8400 @ 2.26GHz, i915. running 5.10.35-1-lts without such issue.

Same issue on HP Elitebook2530p since 5.12 - Intel Core 2 Duo CPU

Kernel 5.12.4 partially restores suspend, however PCI reset seems glitched: my WiFi Card does not resume correctly and when using PCI passthru triggering suspend still keeps the notebook running.
Comment by AMM (amish) - Tuesday, 18 May 2021, 01:59 GMT
For me hang on suspend is still not resolved (even though kernel 5.12.4 changelog mentions a fix for freeze on suspend)

Also random freeze has not gone either. Sometimes freezes after 30 mins and sometime after 2-3 hours. (system has not gone beyond 3hrs)

Downgrading to LTS kernel solves both problems (no hang on suspend and no freeze whole day till manual shutdown at night)

Totally similar problem, mostly same hardware specs

Issue still present with kernel 5.12.5-arch1-1

I can enter suspend when booting into terminal mode instead of xfce.
When I start xfce suspend does not work, even when I logout and re-enter terminal mode.

Also my WiFi card seems to enter an unclean stage on succedful suspend which requires manually resetting the PCI device for it to function again.

LTS kernel fixes suspend but still has the PCI issue (which is why using LTS is not an option for me)

5.12.7.arch1-1 fix the issue for me.

@pushakk can you confirm?

Yes, it's fixed in my system. Thank yoy very much.

I could not poweroff since 5.12. my PC has i915 chipset.
I considerd it is related to this issue.
However it still happen with 5.12.7

No hint by removing quiet from boot flags.

Kernel 5.12.7 seems to have fixed both the issues that I was facing.

sleep / suspend works right.

random freeze seems to have gone too. System has not hung since about 11 hours now.
