DetailsDescription:
The upstream package includes a Romanian dictionary that uses the pre-1993 orthography. It would be nice to have that one available as well. Would that be possible in this package? Or would a separate AUR package be better? I can take care of the AUR package if that is the recommended approach. Optionally, here's a digression on why that dictionary is worth having. The current orthography [1] was adopted in 1993 by the Romanian Academy in order to celebrate the Latin origins of the Romanian language. To that end, it replaces the letter "î" with "â" (they are pronounced the same) in some, but not all, instances. For example, "mână" (hand) looks closer to the Latin "manus" than "mînă". But the Academy includes geologists and medics and mathematicians and they all voted for it out of patriotism without really understanding it. The linguists voted against it. The reason is that the new spelling rules do not bring Romanian closer to Latin. In fact, once you look at all the words, most of them diverge from their Latin spelling under the new rule. So we are left with a spelling system that's complicated and does not achieve its declared goal. That's why a substantial fraction of people and publications still use the pre-1993 orthography.
