Hi, after I tried these two packeges from extra
alsa-lib 1.0.14rc3-2
alsa-utils 1.0.14rc2-2
my speekers started to rattle. I have integrated HDA Intel (snd-hda-intel) - Realtek ALC660 soundcard. When I got back to the current version it's ok.

also try adding:
options snd-hda-intel model=3stack
to /etc/modprobe.conf

By the way. This is in now way fixed. Ive seen this problem for a while now in a bunch of binary ubuntu kernels and the binary arch kernel. also if i build 2.6.21 from source the problem comes up. and the options snd-hda-intel model=3stack dosent seem to work on my toshiba goldfish board laptop

snd-hda-intel is under heavy development atm, and i'm pretty certain its an upstream bug.
try all parameters this modul offers, especially the model= parameter.
i can't help you much on this i don't have such hardware and only a few are affected, the last ones were able to get sound by using the model= parameter.
If you still don't get it working please fill a bug at alsa bug tracker and mention there that you use already the alsa from 28042007.

model=3stack isn't working and also jack output seems not to work at all...
