Geary will use the window styling for devel unless it is built with -Dprofile=release [1].

Except for devel styling it also uses devel paths for user data ~/.config/geary-development and ~/.local/share/geary-development.

On first start in devel mode it copies you configurations and re-downloads your emails again. If your email files are 5G, running the devel version with duplicate the files and they will occupy 10G.

When you switch back to normal mode it will have to download again the emails you received while running in devel mode.

For the above reasons, I think this bug should have higher priority.
Please release a fix, as it is only a build flag change.

In the meantime we can use: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/geary-stable-fix/

I'm 100% with @jonian, this should have a higher priority because of the move to development paths.
