Description:
Comet Lake CPUs can be paired with different PCH: the CMP platform is based on the 400-series chipset for Comet Lake processors, while the TGP platform is based on the 500-series chipset for Tiger Lake CPUs.
However if a Comet Lake CPU is mounted on a TGP platform, i915 *fails* miserably to manage the video resulting in a blank, turned off, screen.
Intel has provided a patch for this problem here: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/412664/

Additional info:
* package version(s)
Kernel: Linux 5.11.14-arch1-1 x86_64
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-10900K (Comet Lake)
MoBo: Asus Prime Z590-P

* config and/or log files etc.
This bug has been extensively documented on the linux Mint forum: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=345452

Thank you loqs, I missed that the merge was in progress.

I backported the four patches from that series to 5.12-rc7. Three could be cherry-picked cleanly while one needed manual adjustment.
Please see if that fixes the issue.
Or would you like me to build the kernel for you?

loqs, I cannot thank you enough for the backport, probably otherwise I had to wait august for the 5.13 release, but it works great so far!
