It is only working on Gnome, not on other DEs like XFCE, Cinnamon etc.

I just use cinnamon and it worked without any problems so I went about 3 months without using linux because I had returned to windows and these days ago I went back to linux again and I see that it doesn't work anymore

I have the same errors (GTK-Critical & Handy error), also when building straight from git. A (temp) solution which works for me is running this command: sudo dbus-launch gnome-system-monitor
I use XFCE

I get the same errors (on a cinnamon desktop). I found that Jorre Adams suggestion works. Furthermore running as superuser (without dbus-launch) works fine as well.

yeah, sudo dbus-launch gnome-system-monitor work 100%
sudo gnome-system-monitor (opens but the program tabs do not work)

Added a hack to 40.0-2 to at least prevent the crashes.

Hello Jan,

Your hack works fine, it now starts without any error. Thanks for this!
