lighttpd 1.4.59-2

Support for brotli compression in mod_deflate was added in version 1.4.56.
The configure flag is --with-brotli.

Since brotli offers a good improvement over gzip and has been supported by the major browsers for years, I think it's worth considering enabling it.

@pierre lighttpd mod_deflate is the only part of lighttpd which may depend on brotli. Can this be packaged separately as lighttpd-mod_deflate (or something similar)?

I have enabled brotli support. As it is a core library required by a lot of packages (e.g. curl and therefore pacman) spliut this dependecy is of no benefit.
