soffice causes loads of errors when run under KDE and as a result it doesn't set up the KDE look&feel as it should. AFIK OOo by default tries to find out which Desktop Environment os it run under and applies the look&feel itself without the need to set OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP manually. Just to make sure, setting the OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=kde causes same erors.
Therefore it seems that the KDE support is broken in OOo.
Moreover soffice works fine when run with OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome environment variable, i.e. it doesn't cause any errors at all and applies the gnome look&feel correctly.

The errors mentioned are like this:
"(process:6196): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: gtype.c:2242: initialization assertion failed, use IA__g_type_init() prior to this function

(process:6196): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_screen_get_font_options: assertion `GDK_IS_SCREEN (screen)' failed"

This problem is also beeing disussed in this thread on arch's bbs:

i also get the printed errors. but the behavior (icons+fpicker) changed well with OOo 2.2.1. so it works for me running under Xfce.

You mean that the KDE filepicker is working fine for you?
Comment by Andreas Radke (AndyRTR) - Saturday, 16 June 2007, 19:38 GMT
not sure if it's the kde one. haven't used kde for long now. but it's different to the gtk one.

don't mix kde fpicker we don't support right now and the kde look&feel (icons) that are working well now.

I still get the errors, but the KDE look&feel is working in soffice/writer.

@cromo: try kgtk if you want to get KDE filepicker.

the errors given to the commandline are not critical. the native kde fpicker isn't supported so far as the patch would make OOo crash. we might integrate it later.

look and feel is now working. so i close this one.
