(process:8953): GdkPixbuf-WARNING **: Error loading XPM image loader: Unable to load image-loading module: /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.2.0/loaders/libpixbufloader-xpm.so: /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.2.0/loaders/libpixbufloader-xpm.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
xmatrix: unable to initialize built-in images
xscreensaver: 00:55:05: 0: child pid 8953 (xmatrix) exited abnormally (code -1)

it seems something is trying to access gtk-2.0/2.2.0 when only gtk-2.0/2.4.0 exists.

I think it's mainly the gdk stuff, but i don't know all that much about this area. happens when i try gnome, xscreensaver, and some other gtk apps

cheers

It seems you need to query the pixbuf loaders again by running the postinstall script for gtk2:

/usr/bin/gtk-query-immodules-2.0 >/etc/gtk-2.0/gtk.immodules
/usr/bin/gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders >/etc/gtk-2.0/gdk-pixbuf.loaders

I haven't seen this problem before, not with xscreensaver, not with other applications. Somehow your postinstall scripts for both gtk2 and librsvg didn't execute.
