Apparently the file /usr/etc/xdg/xfce4/desktop/xfce-registered-categories.xml.it needs to be renamed to /usr/etc/xdg/xfce4/desktop/xfce-registered-categories.xml.ita to prevent segfaults of xfdesktop

It doesn't need to be renamed. If it is renamed it isn't found, so it doesn't generate the error. The file contents were duplicated, so at the second <xml> tag (line 335) the parser fails and crashes xfdesktop. Just remove lines 335-668 and you solve the problem without removing the menu localization.
