XFree86 contains the ttf-bitstream-vera fonts, so we have file conflicts.

There's a workaroudn in the pkg though, forces the remove..
what's the prob JGC?

The problem is that package conflicts that require removing something make people cautious. It actually gets even a bit worse:

So one package gets removed before it's absolutely sure that another one (that hopefully compensates the removal) can be installed. Sounds like a pacman problem.

It's not something pacman can fix, since those conflicting .scale files weren't part of the X 4.3.0 package, and thus weren't removed along with 4.3.0. This problem will only happen to users who ran mkfontdir/mkfontscale, I think (didn't happen on any of my boxen).
