Description:
Sorry, I don't know whether this is a pipewire-pulse or gnome-settings-daemon issue, but my volume keys no longer work (nothing happens, as opposed to an X volume icon being shown when there's no valid sink) after switching from pulseaudio to pipewire-pulse

Update: this only happens with my HDMI display, which probably doesn't support volume control. PulseAudio probably used software volume, but IIRC MacOS can't. Still, it would be nice if it worked.

On the other hand, I can change the volume from pavucontrol, so maybe it's a different issue.

For me the keys change the wrong device. Instead of the onboard soundcard it switches to the HDMI output.

+1 for this. I'm running GNOME Shell on Xorg on my laptop (no external speakers), and after replacing pulseaudio with pipewire-pulse, my volume keys (Fn + F2/F3) stopped working after reboot. Adjusting volume in top-right menu still works. Replacing pipewire-pulse with pulseaudio back and reboot fixed the volume key regression for me.

@dreamingincode this seems to work fine for me (in `pipewire 0.3.18`).

Actually, it still happens from time to time. Restarting pipewire and pipewire-pulse might help.

I have a similar issue but it has been fixed with current software version: either pipewire 0.3.18 and gnome 3.38.2;
Is it still valid for you?

The volume keys work in pipewire 0.3.19, but they don't change the right volume. Still, I suppose we can close this -- it's clearly an upstream issue,
