DetailsDescription:
After gnome shell update to `3.38.1` system crashes with kernel error `page allocation failure` after system starts swapping memory pages. Tends to work longer when started with `desktop manager` (e.q gdm) and shorter when started with `startx`. All desktop elements stay frozen despite mouse cursors is able to move. Beside that system works fine. Replacing gnome-shell with `DISLAY=.0:0 gnome-shell --replace` results only in cursor getting frozen too. Additional info: * package version: {gnome-shell:3.38.1,xorg-server:1.20.9,nvidia:455.28,gpu:gtx980,mem:16g,swap:32g} * files.txz .* systemd-journal dump for startx and gdm session crases. .* .xinitrc file. ? inspect journal with `journalctl --file=file.journal` Steps to reproduce: * Run `gnome-shell` session * Force system to start swapping memory. |

Restarting `gdm.service` via ssh allows to recover the system. Strangely stopping `gdm.service` results in blank screen but with working tty (can login and restart gdm.service blindly)

Probably a problem in the nvidia driver. Please get support from NVIDIA.

Same issue here with Nvidia graphics card. How are you sure it's not a gnome-shell bug, since it started happening after the 3.38 update?

I cannot reproduce the bug. Does recent version fixed your issue?
