DetailsGnome-settings-daemon dies (with return code 1, giving no additional information, even when run from the command line) upon GNOME 2.18 session start. It tries to restart itself several times in the process. This is happening because of keyboard layout indicator applet in GNOME panel. This did not happen with GNOME 2.16. Obvious solution is to remove the plugin from the panel :-) My locale is iso-8859-2 "cs_CZ", and the layout is generic czech layout.
