Details

Gnome-settings-daemon dies (with return code 1, giving no additional information, even when run from the command line) upon GNOME 2.18 session start. It tries to restart itself several times in the process. This is happening because of keyboard layout indicator applet in GNOME panel. This did not happen with GNOME 2.16. Obvious solution is to remove the plugin from the panel :-) My locale is iso-8859-2 "cs_CZ", and the layout is generic czech layout.

See http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/5772, which seemed to be fixed with libxklavier-3.1-1.

Should be fixed with the latest release of libgnomekbd. Please test and respond if it fixed or not.

keyboard layout indicator bug appears to be fixed here after libgnomekbd update.
