Details

Five months after I initially posted a bug report asking about the status of htop maintenance [1], some new maintainers stepped up and decided to fork htop after not receiving any reply following repeated attempts to contact the developer. The last commit to the htop repository was Feb 10, 2019, and a mountain of pull requests and bug reports have piled up since then.

Fortunately the volunteer team looks good and seems to be trustworthy and capable. In particular, the first person to step up was the Debian maintainer for htop, and now the new organization on Github set up to manage development also has a Red Hat employee, along with another maintainer who has previously contributed code to the project.

Given that the current developer of htop seems uninterested in continuing development, I suggest we go ahead and change our upstream to use this fork. It won't matter immediately, but there seems to be interest from the new developers in getting a 3.0.0 release out the door pretty quickly.

The new upstream URL is https://github.com/htop-dev/htop

Thanks for the heads-up, I will have an eye on this.
Really sad that hishamhm does no longer respond to requests...
