The Arch mercurial package is still python2-based. Some time ago it switched to Python 3 and back again, as there were some python3-specific bugs.

If and when these bugs are no longer an issue, the Arch mercurial package should move to being Python3-based.

If I'm understanding correctly, the issue below is the reason @heftig reverted the package to Python 2, and it seems to be resolved now:
