Though not documented upstream, a test compile and run works.

change to dependency and _electron to electron, compile again, test run.

No. Upstream is still on electron 7, even in master. It might seem to work at first sight but certain functionality might be broken. I will not be giving support to a code build with a different major electron version than the upstream.
