Details

There is a bug in freetype versions 2.9 to 2.10.1 (inclusive) which can cause variable fonts to render incorrectly.
As far, as I understand, the issue is already fixed but is not yet available in any release.
Apparently, this patch https://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/freetype/freetype2.git/commit/?id=12e4307dc7b48c9a4a4fc3ac6c32220874ab18ec should be applied to fix this issue.
I've also confirmed, that the issue is fixed by building freetype2-git, which seems to already include the patch.
I would appreciate if you could apply this patch in freetype2 2.10.1-2
