Details

Starting from version 1.2.2 (https://git.zx2c4.com/cgit/tag/?h=v1.2.2), CGit allows repositories to override global setting for "enable-blame". This resolves previous performance concern.

This is gonna go away with gitlab so I'd tend to not want to implement this.

I think this is still wanted for the AUR cgit though.

Wow, wasn’t aware that we are moving to GitLab. Any pointer about it? I tried searching “GitLab” on forum but found nothing related.

In case it was causing mis-interpretation, I’m glad that it’s moving to GitLab. I personally prefer more light-weight solution like CGit, but a feature-rich interface like GitLab would attract more users. That’s possibly why both Debian[1] and GNOME[2] moved to GitLab.
