When I updated to the new xorg-server and xorg-server-utils packages today I can no longer attain screen resolution 1280x800 using the same xorg.conf file. Not sure what resolution it is reverting to but it is definitely not 1280x800. I downloaded andmanually reverted back to xorg-server 1.1.1-6 and xorg-server-utils 1.0.3-1 and everything went back to normal. I also had to revert back to the prior i810 driver package of 1.7.4-1 since the -2 required the new xorg-server and xorg-server-utils packages. Anyways once I reverted back to the older versions my resolution automatically went back to 1280x800 as it is set to.

Just to add this is on a Toshiba Laptop using the intel i810 vid card. It is a 14.1" screen and has worked fine until the new xorg-server and utils packages came out.

Could you supply me with a Xorg.0.log file from a startup of xorg-server 1.2.0 that fails to set the correct resolution? A configuration file would be also nice.

Ok reupdated to the new xorg-server and xorg-server-utils and cleared the log and reran X. I will attach the log file.

Ok did a little more testing and seems the issue only happens once the new xorg-server package is installed. Can install xorg-server-utils with no issues.

Could you also upload the working Xorg.0.log for xorg-server-1.1.x ?

Some interesting lines from your Xorg.0.log:

(II) I810(0): Printing DDC gathered Modelines:
(II) I810(0): Modeline "1280x800" 68.90 1280 1301 1333 1408 800 804 808 816 -hsync -vsync

(II) I810(0): Monitor0: Using hsync range of 45.71-50.53 kHz
(II) I810(0): Monitor0: Using vrefresh value of 60.00 Hz
(II) I810(0): Not using mode "58" (no mode of this name)

*(II) I810(0): Not using mode "1280x800" (hsync out of range)

It looks like xorg-server 1.2.0 gathers modelines which don't match with your display specs. This could either be a buggy display, a buggy BIOS or a buggy driver. You could try to specify HorizSync/VertRefresh in the configuration to allow Xorg to use the generated mode (make it 30-60 or something like that for HorizSync, that should be enough for the generated modeline).

Here's a 1.1.x log file. I will try tinkering with the hsyc and vsync in a bit, heading to dinner with the wife and kids.

Apparently it seems the DisplaySize command no longer works. Seems another user has noticed the same issue and posted it on the forums.

Someone posted a link to a bug report about the issue with DisplaySize in the new xorg server package.. Apparantly there is a patch posted there for it.

Just curious what the status is and if this is still being looked into?

Is this issue even being looked at?

I just fixed the displaySize issue for the upcoming release. Your resolution problem is still not fixed I guess.

Nope not fixed but if this issue is resolved in the upcoming release I can stick with the older xorg-server package and i801 driver package till then. Just wanted to make sure this didn't just fall to the back burner. Thanks again for the great work on Arch.

The new version hasn't been uploaded yet. There's also a new intel driver, so we might try that one also.
