DetailsDescription:
ruby-shadow is used to set passwords for local accounts. Puppet on every other distribution has ruby-augeas as a hard dependency. Arch ships it as optional. Users might assume that it's a hard dependency here as well. I vote for putting this as a hard dependency (like we do it for ruby-augeas as well). If the ruby-shadow package is missing, Puppet assumes the system doesn't support it, not that the package is missing (because it things it's always a hard dependency if it's available): Debug: /User[root]: Provider useradd does not support features manages_passwords; not managing attribute password Steps to reproduce: try to set a password with: puppet resource user password="anysha512hash" --debug |
