Details
Description:
Since updating to 1:3.34.1+7+g750c5acd3-1 after a short while working gnome shell freezes / becomes unresponsive. Applications keep running, but you are unable to interact with any window, no updates to the display happen. Restarting gnome shell with "killall -3 gnome-shell" from another terminal will make the desktop usable again, but it freezes the same shortly after. After downgrading to 1:3.34.1+5+g072a9a484-1 the issue goes aways. Additional info: * gnome-shell 1:3.34.1+7+g750c5acd3-1-x86_64 |

Running the same version of gnome-shell as well as mutter
3.34.1+31+g51f7e8c4d-1 in an X.Org session. I can freeze
gnome-shell by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Tab. Downgrading mutter to
3.34.1+31+g51f7e8c4d-1 fixed the issue for me.
I also found that downgrading mutter - to 3.34.1+26+gc0037305e-1 -
resolves the issue. Running on Dell XPS 15 9560 using Xorg with
Intel graphics (Nvidia adapter disabled).
I can actually confirm the thing with mutter. Just downgrading
gnome-shell seemed to help (issue arose not so quickly), but it
still happened. Only downgrading mutter as well made the issue go
away completely. So probably the actual issue is in mutter, and
gnome-shell only triggers it.
Here is the link to the downstream bug report for mutter:
https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/64389.
Upgrading mutter as described in
https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/64389
resolves this issue. This really is a mutter bug, I suggest to
close this gnome-shell issue then.
