Description:

It's the exact same problem as  FS#58895 [1]. I tried applying the same patch that was provided back then, but it's already applied in upstream.

Additional info:
* package version(s)

The issue surfaced when upgrading xf86-video-intel from

1:2.99.917+870+g6f4972d5-1

to

1:2.99.917+892+gc6cb1b19-1

I can use the latest versions of these packages without problems:

xorg-server: 1.20.5-2
xf86-video-nouveau: 1.0.16-1

* config and/or log files etc.

I've attached the Xorg log, but from diffing with the log when using the older version of xf86-video-intel that works, there doesn't seem to be a significant difference.

* link to upstream bug report, if any

Steps to reproduce:

They're the same as the ones given in  FS#58895 [1].

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100086#c21 mentions a possible failure with failed assertion.

It seems indeed to require another upstream fix.

@jol can you please test this patch? It changes the commit upstream used back to the previous proposed solution arch used to use.

@loqs Yes, it works when using it on the latest version, 2.99.917+893+gbff5eca4-1. Thank you.

Upstream did not apply the patch from  FS#58895 . I rebased my earlier patch (same diff as the one from loqs) and posted it again to the intel-gfx list. It has now received one review, hopefully it will be merged into the next version. The patch can be found here:

Please give latest package in testing a try.

Upstream has merged the patch, I can confirm that the black screen issue is fixed with
xf86-video-intel 1:2.99.917+895+gcb6bff95-1
