Description:
The bug is thoroughly described by Magit users in https://github.com/magit/magit/issues/2708.

Fix is already accepted to master for upcoming version 27, but for some reason maintainers refused to take it to ver 26. Patch that got accepted for ver 27: https://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=21559;msg=131

I've been manually compiling Emacs on Fedora for more than a year now just because of this issue. Would be great to have it on Arch in repo version of Emacs.

Additional info:
* Any <27.
* link to upstream bug report https://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=21559

Steps to reproduce:
For me it happens when doing big interactive rebases with tens of patches with following Magit error:
fatal: Unable to create '/path/to/workspace/.git/index.lock': File exists.
