Right, the limited use it does see is just pretty important. ;)

During the initial brainstorming for a base package, I seem to recall it was decided to leave it in because for non-container environments it's too useful to be able to run lspci in order to get hardware information, and in the situations where you'd need to run it, you probably don't have internet and therefore cannot install it. Also, it's tiny.

I wish this had seen more discussion months ago. ;)

There are several of these reports. They ask for the removal from base of packages like gettext, iputils, some compressors, and pciutils. What is the central place where inclusion criteria are listed and (possibly) discussed? I find the "it is tiny but very useful" argument that is put forth a few times very unsatisfying. Useful to whom? Tiny relative to what? Should all tiny and useful packages be required by base? I don't see vi listed as a requirement (neither do I have a strong opinion on its inclusion).
