I'm not sure this is technically a bug because I don't think we really have to care about what happened in AUR before making the package official I guess but I'll bump it and that's that.
As for the pkgrel, it's not about whether we support the AUR, it's about whether we force people into the repo package instead. ;)
Depending on situation, this can actually be a cause of broken packages, if something depends on it that gets installed from the repos via pacman -Syu but an old version from the AUR is broken due to soname rebuilds (except pacman thinks it is a *newer* version, or even the same version).
It's gone ignored for 11(!!!) years.
